Chunyacha
Maruti Temple is located at Shahapur village near Karad taluka under Satara
district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Shahapur belongs to Pune division
and located 45 kms towards south from the district head quarters Satara, 11 kms
from Karad and 268 kms from the state capital city Mumbai. This Maruti (Son
of Marut/Wind God) temple was established in 1644 (17th century) by Saint Shri Swami
Samarth Ramdas (Living Period 1608 to 1681 Year) who was devotee of Bhagwan
Shri Ram & Lord Hanuman and Spiritual Guru of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The deity of this temple is adorned with 6 feet tall lime stone and facing
east. Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti are the two main festivals at this temple.
Saint Shri
Swami Samarth Ramdas established total 11 famous Maruti (God Hanuman) temples at
different towns and villages in Maharashtra state of India as per following :-
(1) Year
1644 :- Chunyacha Maruti temple at SHAHAPUR near Karad. Idol height is 6 feet
& facing direction is east and made up of lime stone material.
(2) Year
1645 :- Maharudra Hanuman at MASUR near Karad. Idol height is 5 feet & facing
direction is east and made up of lime stone material. Best and most beautiful
of all the eleven temples ,Mahrudra Hanuman idol sits amidst the portraits of
Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Shri Swami Samarth Ramdas.
(3) Year
1648 :- Vir (or Pratap or Bhim) Maruti at CHAPHAL near Satara. Idol height is 7
feet. This temple is located behind the Lord Ram temple of Chaphal.
(4) Year
1648 :- Das Maruti at CHAPHAL near Satara. Idol height is 6 feet. The specialty
of this temple is that Lord Hanuman can be seen kneeling in front of his Lord
Ram with his hands folded in the Namaskar Mudra.
(5) Year
1649 :- Baal Maruti or Khadicha Maruti at SHINGANWADI near Satara. Idol height
is 3.5 feet & facing direction is north. Baal Maruti has been built in the
place where Swami Samarth Ramdas is said to be meditating. The temple precinct
also has the spring of Kubdi Thirth.
(6) Year
1649 :- Umbraj Maruti or Mathatil Maruti at UMBRAJ near Masur. Idol height is 6
feet & facing direction is east and made up of Lime+ Sand+ Jute material. One
amongst all the eleven Maruti temples to be without a spire.
(7) Year
1649 :- Majgaon cha Maruti at MAJGAON near Satara. Idol height is 5 feet. Unique
feature of this temple is that the Maruti idol faces westwards or in the
direction of Lord Ram Mandir.
(8) Year
1651 :- Bahe-Borgaon cha Maruti at Bahe near Sanlgi. Located on an island named
Ramalinga; island has a temple of Lord Shri Ram with a Shivalinga installed in
front, on the banks of River Krishna. The Maruti statue in this temple sits
behind the Lord Ram temple in a posture as if warding off the water of the
River Krishna.
(9) Year
1651 :- Manapadale cha Maruti at MANAPADALE near Kolhapur. Idol height is 5.25
& facing direction is north, can be reached & worshipped after passing
through a hall of 26 x 15 square feet.
(10) Year
1651 :- Pargaon cha Maruti at PARGAON near Panhala. Idol height is 1.5 feet
& engraved in stone material, the smallest idol amongst all eleven Maruti temples.
(11) Year
1654 :- Shirala Maruti at SHIRALA (Battish Shirala). Idol height is 7 feet
& facing direction is north and made up of lime stone material.
