Neem Karoli Baba Ashram

Statue of Rambhakt Hanuman depicted as flying towards Lanka in search of Mata Sita, carrying Bhagwan Shri Ram’s Ring in his hand, is located at Neem Karoli Baba Ashram, TAOS, NEW MEXICO USA.
Of the many gathering places of Neem Karoli Baba Satsang in America, Neem Karoli Baba Ashram in Taos is the home of Shri Taos Hanumanji, a most unique and loveable statue. The Taos Hanuman Temple is operated by western devotees of Neem Karoli Baba.
Neem Karoli Baba’s (also known as Maharaj-ji) Taos Hanuman Temple is located at 7000 feet elevation in the Sangre de Christo (Blood of Christ) Range of the Rocky Mountains. Taos is a small town noted as a "spiritual center". Thousands of Hindus from all over the world make pilgrimages to have the darshan of Shri Taos Hanumanji.
The Hanuman Temple at this Ashram is the only public temple institution of Neem Karoli Baba western Satsang and is the most likely visited Hanuman Temple in America.
Shri Hanuman is depicted in his "Ramachudamanidayaka" form as flying over the ocean carrying Lord Shri Ram's ring to Sitaji in Lanka (a symbol of hope and reunion, of love in motion). There are many forms of Hanumanji in India, but Lord Hanuman in this rupa is very rare. He was designed in America, sculpted in Jaipur city in the Indian state of Rajashtan, and transported to his home in Taos.
Each day Aarti is performed to Hanumanji and Maharaj-ji from 7:00 to 7:45 each morning and 7:00 to 7:45 each evening. Aarti consists of Jay Jagadish Hare, Guru Vandana, Vinaya Chalisa, Guru Stotra, Hanuman Chalisa, Hanuman Ashtak and Jai Gurudev.
Holidays celebrated at Taos Hanuman Temple are Shivaratri, Hanuman Jayanti, Guru Purnima, Maharaj-ji’s Mahasamadhi Bhandara, Durga Puja-Navratri.
Neem Karoli Baba (1900 to September 11, 1973), also known to followers as Maharaj-ji, was a Hindu guru, mystic and devotee of the Hindu deity Hanuman. He is known outside India for being the guru of a number of Americans who travelled to India in the 1960s and 1970s. His ashrams are in Kainchi, Vrindavan, Rishikesh, Shimla, Nib Karori village near Khimasepur in Farrukhabad, Bhumiadhar, Hanuman Gadi, Lucknow and Delhi in India and in Taos, New Mexico, USA.
Neem Karoli Baba died at approximately 1.15 a.m. in the early morning hours of September 11, 1973 in a hospital at Vrindavan (or Brindavan) in India. Subsequently, his Samadhi shrine was built within the complex of Vrindavan Ashram, which also has some of his personal belongings.

  1. Although I am thousands of miles and many worlds away now, I always loved going to the Hanuman Temple, as we called it, and performing service, singing bhajans and cooking and eating together.Wonderful people, wonderful times.
