85 feet saffron
colour majestic statue of Lord Hanuman, claimed as the largest of its kind
outside India, is situated in Dattatreya Temple Compound at one of the famous
religious town Carapichaima in twin island country Trinidad & Tobago of
South America.
Lord Hanuman
stands for faith, strength, worship and the willingness to sacrifice, thus
making Him a great role model in the hearts of Hindus everywhere.
Two gray
concrete elephants provide water for devotees to wash their feet before
entering the main mandir at the northern side.
The
structure of Dattatreya Temple & Yoga Centre is an amalgamation of many wonderful
works which was built according to the Dravidian style of architecture of South
India. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu Trinity Dattareya and is a source
of joy and reverence for the large Hindu Indo-Trinidadian population on the
island. The brilliantly pink, blue, green and golden structure was created by
fourteen stonemasons who were specially flown down.
The inside
of the dome has seven stages of graded architecture with numerous figures of
musicians playing the various types of musical instruments in seven different
colors. This is the symbolic of inviting guests into the main hall of the big
mandir.
The colour
schemes are the same as in India. The same architectural style is evident
inside the mandir dedicated to Lord Dattatreya. Inside the main mandir, there
are mini chambers with shrines dedicated especially to the different aspects of
the trinity. Look up and marvel at the stunning paintings and statuettes that
embellish the inner roof.
This little
piece of India in the Caribbean brings devotees from all over the islands and
has become a sight for those who enjoy architectural splendour. The calm
ambiance that surrounds the area enhances the aesthetic beauty of these
creations and provides a tranquil place for to offers ones prayers.
